What can orthodontic treatment do?
The main reason our patients come to Brickfields Dental Care for orthodontic treatment is that they feel self-conscious about the aesthetic of their smile. However, there are many additional dental issues that orthodontic braces can fix, including:
- Correcting dental crowding – where crowding occurs, it makes it harder to clean correctly around individual teeth, which can create a breeding ground for gum disease. Aligning crowded teeth will ensure that you can efficiently clean the surface of, and in-between, your teeth to keep your oral health in top shape.
- Correcting your bite – if you have a misaligned bite, where your top jaw doesn’t align completely with your bottom jaw, you may not be able to chew properly, your speech could be affected when you pronounce certain words, and you may have experienced headaches from tension in your jaw. If your bite is not corrected, you may also experience premature tooth wear from added pressure in uneven areas.
- Preventing damage to your teeth – orthodontic treatment can reduce the chance of damage to the teeth that sit more prominently in the mouth.

Invisalign® removable braces – the clear choice for straight teeth in Essex

Dreaming of a straighter smile but put off by the thought of metal braces? As a Chelmsford Invisalign provider, Brickfields Dental Care has the discreet and gentle solution for you.
With the Invisalign removable clear aligner system, our dentists can perfectly straighten your teeth comfortably and quickly. And the best part is that no-one will be able to tell your wearing braces unless you want them to!
How does Invisalign® work?
This revolutionary system makes use of invisible aligners to gently correct the positioning of your teeth into the desired location. Made of thin and clear plastic, the aligners are tailor-made to fit your teeth and are changed every two weeks to gradually move the teeth into their new position.
On average, our Chelmsford Invisalign patients are given a series of between 12-48 individual aligners throughout the course of treatment, which on average lasts between 12-18 months. Your dentition will be assessed by the orthodontist at regular 6-week intervals to ensure your smile journey is progressing as planned.

Why choose Invisalign® clear aligners?

- No metal! The soft, thin plastic that creates the Invisalign aligners means that there is no need for uncomfortable metal bands that are often painful when adjusted.
- Discreet. Invisalign aligners are so clear that they are practically undetectable and invisible to others.
- Flexible. Invisalign patients can remove their aligners when eating and if you play sports, you can even take out your aligner in favour of your mouth guard!
- Better oral health. The removable aspect of Invisalign aligners means that you can still brush your teeth thoroughly which reduces the risk of gum disease.
Damon Braces – the quickest to straight teeth in Essex

At Brickfields Dental Care, our Chelmsford dentists offer the Damon System of brackets to provide their patients with fast teeth straightening treatment and a shorter overall treatment time.
This state-of-the-art self-ligating system works without the need for elastic or metal ‘ties’ to support the braces, which are then free to move with less friction along the wire allowing for a smoother and quicker end-result. Without having to tighten or replace ties, this means that our Brickfields dentists can straighten your smile in as little as 6 months using the Damon System!
What are the benefits of Damon braces?
- Faster and gentler treatment
- No need for headgear, elastic or metal ties
- More comfortable with no tightening required
- Easier to keep your teeth clean
- Makes use of the teeth’s natural manoeuvrability so most patients will not need to have extractions before treatment
- Tooth-coloured brackets available

Retainers
Once your orthodontic treatment is complete, your Brickfields dentist will provide you with a retainer to keep your beautiful new smile in position.
Teeth continue to move throughout your life and generally become more crooked the older we get. Retainers are a great way to prevent this movement and keep your smile investment intact.

FAQs
Do I qualify for Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign aligners can be used for both children and adults and the cases that will benefit most from this treatment are those with mild to moderate crowding.
Is orthodontic treatment uncomfortable?
Depending on the type of orthodontic treatment you receive, there may be a few days at the beginning of the process where your mouth feels more tender and slightly uncomfortable. Over-the-counter mild analgesics, such as paracetamol, are more than sufficient to ease any discomfort in the first few hours after having your orthodontic system placed.
How long will it take to straighten my teeth?
Treatment times vary depending on multiple factors such as age, the complexity of your case, and the system used to treat your smile. Generally, most people wear their braces or aligners between 6-24 months.
How often will I need to visit the dentist?
For fixed braces, you will need to visit the dentist every 6-8 weeks so that the dentist can check that your treatment is progressing as planned and to have your wires changed if you have fixed braces.
