Specialist tooth restoration in Chelmsford

If you have experienced trauma to your teeth or are suffering from advanced tooth decay, our South Woodham Ferrers dental professionals can repair and restore function to your teeth through inlay and onlay replacements.
Inlays and onlays are pre-moulded composite or porcelain pieces that are created from an impression of your broken tooth and cemented onto the damaged surface. They can be constructed from porcelain, zirconium or composite resin for a natural look though we may advise gold material for a stronger choice which is ideal for the back teeth.
Dental inlays and onlays – the process
The process usually takes two visits. Whilst you’re waiting for the hand-crafted piece to return from the dental lab, your dentist will fit a provisional inlay or onlay to keep the damaged tooth safe and minimise sensitivity.
Once the lays have been fitted, the tooth is polished to reduce rough edges and maximise comfort, giving a natural feel that has always generated excellent feedback on patient satisfaction.
It is also possible to have this treatment completed in a single visit, if CEREC ceramic inlays and onlays are used.

What are the advantages of inlays and onlays?

- Improves the aesthetic of your smile
- Strengthens your existing tooth
- Are less invasive than a complete dental crown
- Provides greater degree of protection when chewing food
- Are fully bonded to the teeth so will leave no gaps for food particles to become trapped in
